My LLB Companion · last updated 10 October 2026

My LLB Companion is a study website for law students. This page explains what personal information we collect when you create an account, why, who can see it, and what you can ask us to do with it. We try to follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the "DPDP Act").

1. What we collect

  • Account details you give us: your name, email address and password. Your password is never stored as typed; only a one-way scrambled form (an Argon2id hash) is kept, so nobody, including us, can read it.
  • Optional details: mobile number, country, state or union territory, law college and semester. You can leave these blank.
  • Your use of the site: quiz and assessment answers and scores, timetable preferences and class-reminder settings, and which notifications you have read.
  • Consent record: the date and time you accepted this policy.
  • Technical data: a login cookie (see section 6) and ordinary server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) that the web server keeps for security and fault-finding.

We do not collect payment details, government ID numbers or location, and we do not ask for anything about your health, religion or similar sensitive matters.

2. Why we use it

  • To create your account and confirm your email address (we send a verification link).
  • To keep the study material for registered students only and to keep your quiz history and timetable.
  • To send you service emails: verification, password reset and, if you switch them on, daily class reminders.
  • To protect the site against misuse, such as repeated failed logins and spam sign-ups.
  • Your college, state and semester are used only to personalise the site and for general, non-identifying statistics.

We do not sell your information, do not show advertisements and do not send marketing email.

3. Who else handles your data

  • Amazon Web Services hosts the website and its database, and Amazon SES delivers our emails.
  • jsDelivr (a public content network) supplies the Bootstrap design files and the fonts, so your browser contacts it when a page loads.
  • The Search Assistant is a keyword search over this site's own content. It does not send what you type to any outside service.
  • We disclose information to the authorities only where the law requires it.

4. How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal details and your quiz and timetable data, except anything we must keep to meet a legal duty. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.

5. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act you may ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and how it is used;
  • correct or complete it;
  • erase it (delete your account);
  • withdraw your consent at any time (we will then delete the account, because the site cannot work without it);
  • nominate another person to exercise these rights if you die or become unable to; and
  • make a complaint to us. If we do not resolve it, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

To use any of these rights, or to ask a question, write to privacy@<your-domain> from the email address registered with your account, so that we can be sure it is you. We aim to reply within 15 days.

6. Cookies

We use only the cookies the site needs to work: a session cookie that keeps you logged in and a security token that protects forms against forgery. They are not used for advertising or tracking and are removed when the session ends or you log out. Your browser may also store a copy of PDFs you choose to "Save for offline", on your own device only.

7. Security

The site is served over HTTPS; passwords are stored as Argon2id hashes; access to the study material needs a verified account; and the database is not open to the internet. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data we will tell you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.

8. Age

The site is meant for people aged 18 or over. Please do not register if you are younger. If we learn that a child has registered, we will delete the account.

9. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, where the law requires, ask for your consent again.

10. Not legal advice

The notes, quizzes and other material on this site are study aids. They are not legal advice, and no lawyer-client relationship is created by using the site.
